United 1-1 Chelsea: 5 Things We Learnt As Top-4 Hopes Slipped Away

Manchester United could only get a draw on a day when a win was absolutely needed at Old Trafford to keep top-four hopes alive. Here are five things ManUtdNaijaFM learnt as United and Chelsea took home a point each: 1. HERRERA MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE United welcomed back the baby-faced midfield warrior Ander 'Akinbode' Herrera and he was absolutely buzzing. It was no coincidence that this was Matic's best game since he left and United's best midfield control in a while. We may not have won, but this was United's best game since Herrera was injured. 2. TOP-FOUR ALGEBRA With this draw against Chelsea, Manchester United have set a MATHEMATICS EXAM for her fans. United will make top-four if Chelsea lose two matches or draw one while Arsenal draws two matches with Tottenham losing one and winning one......etc etc Algebra may not be enough to work it out. We may need quadratic formula aka 'The Almighty formula' to solve this one. 3. DAV...

United 0-2 City: 5 Matters Arising As Manchester Was Painted Blue

Manchester United's 'bloody April' continued with another humbling in the hands of title contenders Manchester city. Here are five matters arising from this derby loss: 1. THINGS FALL APART Since Ole signed his three-year contract, things have moved from bad to worse. Losses have become 'normal', teams are shining at our expense. The honeymoon period appears to have ended. Only Chinua Achebe's novel title can describe the state of United now- "Things fall apart"!! 2. DRY SEASON AND RAINY SEASON The two seasons in Naija seem to be at play at Manchester United now. In the goal scoring end, things have dried up completely like in the Harmattan period of the dry season. United's last goal from open play was April 2nd. In the goal conceding end, it's been a heavy down pour. United have failed to keep a clean sheet in 12 games and have  conceded 12 goals in 5 games. 3. LINGARD vs MARTIAL Lingard was given a nod to start, while Mar...

Everton 4-0 United: 5 Things We Learnt As Everton Evaporated United.

Manchester United fell like crumbs of dry 'Agege' bread in the hands of Everton at Goodison park. It was a shambolic performance from the red devils to say the least. Here are five matters arising from this embarrasment: 1. 'ONE CHANCE ' The situation with Olè now is what we refer to in Naija as 'one chance'- (a bone stuck in the throat which can neither be spat out or swallowed). Since he signed his contract, he has now lost six matches, conceded 16 goals and scored six in eight matches!!! Should United re-instate him as interim boss? 2. CIVIL SERVANTS ON SALARY Olè may not be super tactician, but the attitude of most of United's current crop of players is shocking. Most of them are not playing for the badge, or have no idea what it means to play for Manchester United. They are simply like civil servants just earning their weekly wages, playing without passion. Pogba and Martial particularly played like retired civil servants t...

Barcelona 3-0 United: 5 Matters Arising As Barca Bashed United

Manchester United were shown a 'Palm oil' (red) card out of the champions league after being crushed by a Messi-inspired Barcelona.  Here are five things ManUtdNaijaFM learnt from the champions league exit. 1. FIRST RONALDO, NOW MESSI The best two players in the world in the last 10 years have somehow found a way to mesmerize the career of our special David 'Osinachi' De Gea. In the world cup, Ronaldo scored an embarrassing goal against him by shooting the ball between his 'torros'. Last night, Messi did his own, making De Gea concede an unimaginable goal. Messi and Ronaldo compete with everything and they have now added 'Embarrassing De Gea' to the list of their achievements and competition. 2.  ASHLEY YOUNG As if his poor performance against West Ham was not enough, the captain gave a horror show against Barcelona. His only contribution appeared to be charging the players with loud shouts after every goal. Well, ...

BARCELONA vs MANCHESTER UNITED: MATCH INFO AND GIST

United 2-1 West Ham: 5 Things We Learnt As United Stayed Above Water.

Olè and his boys produced three points at Old Trafford today using a 'grinding stone' approach. Two spot kicks from Paul 'Ikenna' Pogba (without slow motion) were needed to grind out the points at home. Here are five things ManUtdNaijaFM learnt from the lacklustre victory: 1. ANONYMOUS MATA Juan 'Bankole' Mata was given the Trequartista midfield  role today and largely flopped. The former magician was almost declared missing until he won the penalty. He was rightly substituted in the second half and I'm sure he knew he had to go. 2. WAS THE BALL HOT? Anthony 'Ikechukwu' Martial was a strong contender for flop of the match today with his poor performance. Each time he attempted a pass or dribble, he hit the ball so lightly like it was wrapped with hot leather. He lost possession in the opponents half more than any other player. Like his fellow flop today, his best moment was also winning the second penalty. 3. JUST A PAIR O...

United vs West Ham: MATCH INFO AND GIST

The top-four battle continues for Manchester United as they host stubborn West Ham at Old Trafford. The reverse fixture in September was a disaster as United slumped to a 3-1 defeat. Here's all you need to know about this crucial clash:                         MATCH INFO Date: 13th April 2019 Kick-off: 16.30 GMT (5.30pm Naija time) Venue: Old Trafford Competition: English Premier League Center Referee: Graham Scott. United 0-1 Barca: 5 Things We Learnt As United Bowed To Barca Pressure

The red devils knocked horns with FC Barcelona at Old Trafford  for the 1st leg of the UCL quarter-final. An unlucky own-goal from Luke 'Ajebota' Shaw gave Barca a crucial win, garnished with a precious away goal advantage. Here are five things ManUtdNaijaFM learnt from the clash. 1. TOO MUCH RESPECT United started quite slowly against Barca. We showed them too much respect, giving them time and space to showcase the best of 'tiki-taka'.  As the game went on, United got into the game and gave Barca a good run for their money. 2. UNLUCKY DAY With everyone expecting a thumping from Barca, United have a good account of themselves. They created some good goal scoring chances, won free-kicks in dangerous positions, but somehow just failed to hit the target. Dalot's miss was the highpoint of United's poor luck in front of goal. It was easier to score than to miss. In Naija language, he 'Yakubu-ed' the ball. 3. MCTOMINAY HAS...

Wolves 2-1 United: 5 Matters Arising As Wolves Devoured United Again.

Manchester United 'repeated the Wolves exam' and failed again in the same examination hall (Molineux stadium) this evening, scoring the same 'marks' (scoreline of 2-1). Here are five matters arising from this second failure. 1. THE THREE FRONT MEN With Marcus Rashford out injured, Olè's choice of Lukaku, Lingard and Dalot turned out to be a calamity. Lukaku clearly lacked match fitness having just returned from injury (but he was still the best of them). Dalot was surprisingly missing in action. He was first seen in the 68th minute!! Lingard deserves a full point and so will not be discussed yet. 2. WORST OF JESSE 'AWILO' LINGARD This was probably Lingard's worst performance in a United shirt. After his initial first minute run and goal attempt, he shut down. Lingard ended the match without creating a chance, completing a take on, intercepting a pass or making a tackle. To spice it up, he missed a one-on-one free...
