SOUTHAMPTON 0-1 UNITED: 5 THINGS WE LEARNT FROM SCRAPPY WIN

It was a Saturday of mixed feelings for fans of Manchester United as the team scrapped the "bottom of the pot" for a 1-0 victory against Southampton in the background of a very poor display.
Here are Things ManUtdNaijaFM learnt from this clash:

1. HALF BREAD IS BETTER THAN GROUNDNUT

With the possibility of a draw staring United in the face, Mourinho opted to change his formation from a 4-2-3-1 to an 8-1-1, to avoid "Stories that touch".
In times past José has been accused of "Parking the bus". Today, he chose to park not just a bus, but a "MOLUE" (a large commuter bus in Lagos, Naija) to get his precious 3 points.

2. ROMELU "TIMAYA" LUKAKU

The 'Striker-in-Chief' was the only reason United had something to smile about today. Right now, it appears that anything he touches, becomes a goal.
Beyond his goal, one positive thing about him is that his hold-up play appears to be improving.
With 8 goals in 8 games, It can only get better for our "Timaya",......."Who God don bless, no man can curse".

3. MATIC-FELLAINI COLLABO

In the absence of Paul "Ikenna" Pogba, Mourinho has brought  in his beloved son Oga "Fela" to partner Matic in midfield.
This collabo is one of the major reasons behind United's blunt display in the last 2 EPL games(despite scoring 4 against Everton).

They both seem solid defensively, but there's little or no creativity coming from their collabo, which makes United keep a deep forward line because we play a more  defensive 4-2-3-1.
Fellaini is important to the team, but should not be a starter.

4.  LOST BUT NOT FOUND

In the last few games, Henrikh "Nwokeoma" Mkhitaryan has been guilty of disappearing in the early parts of the game, and finally showing up with brilliant assist or a goal.

Today, he was lost but was never found. He struggled through the game, losing possession too easily. His poor play in addition to the static Matic-Fellani collabo made United like an "over-ripe dodo" in the middle of the park.

5. PHIL "OSAZE" JONES

The hardworking defender worked for his one month salary in a single match. He dived into every tackle, aerial duel,.... he gave his all. Kudos to him and Bailly for the partnership, which saved United 3 points today.

IN THE END, It was a very poor display from United.
There was a complete lack of sharpness from the team. They made Southampton look like South-Madrid.

The Goodnews however is that 3 points achieved with a lone goal will ALWAYS be better than 1 point achieved with 3 goals(eg 3-3). So Kudos to the defence for holding on.

UP NEXT, CSKA Moscow; Same time, Same Station, on Wednesday.
Stay tuned to ManUtdNaijaFM.

 GLORY GLORY MAN UNITED.
