United 2-2 Derby (7-8 Pen): 6 Matters Arising As United Crashed Out Of Carabao Cup.

Derby County led by José Mourinho's former boy Frank Lampard, showed United the way out of the Carabao cup, despite the initial 'gra-gra' with a 3rd minute goal.

Here are 6 matters arising from this clash:

1. UNITED vs 'DERBY-MADRID'
Last night, United  made Derby County look like 'Derby-Madrid'. They made United chase the ball throughout so much that it looked like they were using the team to play the Naija game 'Ludo'!!.

In the 2nd half, it seems Lampard sent his goalkeeper to buy him 'gala' and when he returned in the 75th minute, United had still not had a goal attempt.

2. ONE STEP FORWARD, TWO STEPS BACKWARD.
Following United's improved displays in the last 3 away matches, fans had become hopeful that the play had improved and better days were ahead.

Against Derby however, it was awful as United went back to the old boring, plan-less and direction-less play. The play could be simply described in Naija style as 'Anywhere-bèle-face'.

3. MATIC-HERRERA 'COLLABO'.
The midfield pairing of 'Agu' Matic and 'Akinbode' Herrera was part of United's undoing last night. They were too static and resulted in a lack of transition from defence to attack.

To add 'grinded pepper to the wound', the Number 10 of the day Lingard, struggled to find his feet. Fred's introduction in the 2nd half saw the midfield come alive, but it was too late.

4. BIG MISSES
United's 'Striker-in-chief' Romelu 'Timaya' Lukaku, continued his new 'habit' of missing at least one big chance in every game. Tonight he missed 2 glorious chances served him which could have buried the game.

The man needs to step up. He may have scored 4 goals this season, but this habit will put United in more danger when we need to finish games up.

5. MARTIAL vs ALEXIS
Despite a poor display and an eventual loss, Anthony 'Ikechukwu' Martial was the only bright spark in the team. He was dazzling and created chances.

For the 1st time in a while, United threatened from the left wing which had previously been dormant since Alexis arrival. It appeared like in 90 minutes, Martial had done more for the team than Alexis has done all season!!.

6. RED DEVILS, RED CARDS.
United seem to be on a red card run this season. The season has barely began, and Rashford and Matic have already collected.

Today United got 'two' extra red cards; one for Sergio Romero and one for the team as they were sent out of the Carabao cup!!

IN THE END, It was a poor outing. Penalty shoot-out is often a game of luck, but the game should never have gotten to penalties. Kudos to Oga 'Fela' who tried to rescue the game.

UP NEXT, West Ham on Saturday.
